I don't think there's a real need (from Apple's point of view) to sell WiFi routers, and they have plenty of other fish to fry. There are plenty of solutions that provide Apple devices with good WiFi connectivity. It made a lot of sense for them to produce and sell wireless routers.įast forward to now, and a whole industry has grown up providing WiFi solutions for home, small business, and enterprise use. The available routers for home use were pretty awful, and Apple needed something good to support the users of their devices.
Getting back to Apple, they were one of, if not the, first to provide wireless as standard on their devices.

I'd also point out that an awful lot of people don't really need anything more than WiFi5 yet, and that an awful lot of people don't need either the eero Pro or eero Pro 6. (A lot of products on the market other than eero don't actually have "mesh." They're just static networks that are essentially the same as WiFi extenders.) You're also paying for their firmware and their "special sauce," which is partly their mesh technology and partly their cloud management services.
